The son of Zinedine Zidane, French football’s illustrious former captain, has finally chosen which side to play for. Eighteen-year-old Enzo will represent France ahead of Spain.
The Blue Jersey
Enzo Alan Zidane Fernandez was born in France, but he holds dual nationality after moving to Spain when he was small. The teenager has been called up for Spain’s under-15 side, and is also eligible to play for Algeria, where his grandparents are from.
France under-19s coach Francis Smerecki has recently named Enzo to the squad in time for the training camp. “The player has decided to wear the blue jersey,” Willy Sagnol said, the manager of France’s youth teams and former international teammate of Zidane Sr. “He can still change in the future but it’s his current wish to play for the French national team.”
Enzo is currently playing for Real Madrid in the A team, right below the first team. Other Zidane names are also in the mix. Fifteen-year-old Luca, 11-year-old Theo, and 8-year-old Elyaz are all part of the the youth teams at the Bernabeu.
